F1 24 Gameplay Revealed – New Handling Model, Updated Tracks And Career Mode Revamp

EA Sports And Codemasters have dropped a new trailer for F1 24, this year’s annual game based on Formula 1. The trailer features plenty of in-game footage of the new cars in the 2024 livery (which sees a lot of shake up due to two teams having a name change), as well as reigning world champion Max Verstappen.

Verstappen isn’t just there for show- he’s also a consultant on this year’s F1 game and worked closely with the dev team on creating the new handling model, dubbed “EA Sports Dynamic Handling”. This new handling physics can be felt behind a steering wheel or on a controller.

Expect new suspension kinematics, an upgraded tyre model, aerodynamic simulation plus new engine and care setup options for this year’s game. Ambient track temperature is also a variable that can affect how the open wheel car handles.

F1 24 promises updates to the tracks in which the F1 circus travels the world over. Of the 24 tracks that makes up the 2024 season, four specific tracks have been name dropped to have received some love: Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Lusail (Qatar) and Jeddah Corniche (Saudi Arabia).

Content-wise, F1 24 will see a revamped Career Mode. In this mode, you get to either play as an up-and-coming driver from F2, an F1 legend, or create your own character to be “one of the 20”, this game’s marketing tagline.

You’ll be building reputation in the paddock by completing on-track objectives. There will be race-day tasks so your race can be more more than just about placing the highest position with the car you’re driving. Contract Targets can be completed to secure a new contract deal with the current team, or secure a secret meeting with a rival team with the intent to move there. Drivers can aim to achieve long-term and short-term goals, from top 10 finishes to a World Championship title.

Additionally, you can also play Career Mode with another player. That other player can be your teammate as part of the same team, or compete as a rival on another.

If you don’t want to commit to a 24-race season in Career Mode out of the gate, there is a sampler called the Challenge Career. This is curated mode where you race as a pre-selected driver on the F1 grid and race in a series of mini seasons.

F1 World, the multiplayer hub, is back with some new features.

The My Team Mode is returning as well, but it seems to be downplayed for this year. My Team Mode is a career mode variant where you play as an owner/driver of an 11th team on the F1 grid.

Whether this is to not downplay the new additions of Career Mode which this year’s game made a focus on, or a deliberate downplay given the recent news of F1 rejecting a bid for an 11th team to enter the grid is up for debate.

F1 24 will be out on May 31 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
