Exoprimal Gets New Story Trailer, Shows New Dinos, New Exosuits

Capcom’s multiplayer dino-busting game Exoprimal gets a new trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2022.

First revealed at Xbox’s TGS stream, more info was later divulged on Capcom’s own online show later that day.

The new story trailer gives you hints of the plot behind the wargames. Exoprimal is set in an alternate future 2040 where dinosaurs invade the world. Fast forward to 2043, and you are part of a squad of exosuit pilots that fend off the dino invasion, The Hammerheads. And the crew are questioning the Leviathan AI that keeps sending them to various wargames.

Your created character is referred to as Ace, part of the Hammerheads alongside fellow pilot Majesty (no not Regina from Dino Crisis), suit mechanic and resident chief Lorenzo, former pilot now engineer Alders, and support android Sandy.

The story will also feature other characters like Magnum, a pilot from a different squad, and the masked observer Durban.

The story will unfold as you continue playing the main Dino Survival mode, a PvPvE mode with various dynamic mission types.

Exoprimal new Exosuits

The new trailer for Exoprimal shows off two new exosuits. First, there’s the tank class Murasame. As the name suggests, this suit fights with a giant blade and gives off samurai vibes. The blade can block and counter attacks, which sounds like a more active, but also more technical, tank suit compared to Roadblock’s big-old shield.

Other suit is for the support class, Skywave. Skywave can fly in the air shooting enemies down and shooting heals down to allies.

The trailer also showed a little glimpse of Blade, a new RIGS (class agonistic extra weapon) that acts like a giant electric shuriken that paralyses foes.

Exoprimal new dinosaurs

Exoprimal revealed new dinosaurs (and the mutated neosaurs) in the latest trailer. This includes:

  • Dilophosaurus – neck frills. Spew poison at a distance, poison cloud obscures vision
  • Carnotaurus – has large horns. Charges and headbutts. Brutal sideways attacks and flying kicks
  • Neo T. Rex – mutated Tyranosaurus Rex. Shoots lasers that sweep the ground, emit shockwaves, summon other neosaurs

Not only can players customise their character (doesn’t seem to have a lot if any sliders though), but you can also change exosuit skins, weapons skins, decals and charms. Exosuits can be upgraded with modules for some passive improvements (increase suit durability, faster reloads). You can also do emotes and send stamps to communicate with other players accessible via a comm wheel.

Exoprimal isn’t exactly what fans wanted when they asked Capcom to make a game about dinosaurs, but the part horde-shooter, part Overwatch-like hero shooter with PVE and PVP mashed together that also happens to have an intriguing plot may be a potentially good time.

Exoprimal will be released in 2023 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
