Recently, Capcom has revealed three new DLC characters coming to Street Fighter V. But this was not planned- it was supposed to be the big announcement at EVO 2019 after the game’s grand finals have finished, as per tradition. Last year, we saw the double reveal of new character G and fan-favourite Sagat to a very ecstatic and hyped crowd. They were also released the next day after the reveal.
Unfortunately for Capcom, their triple release of E. Honda, Lucia and Poison, got leaked ahead of time due to Steam listing the DLC on its store way too early, which prompted them to just reveal them all officially.
Valve has officially provided an apology on the game’s Community hub page on Steam regarding this. Here is the post in full:
“On Wednesday of this week there was a mix-up in the publishing process at Valve that caused a trailer to go live on Steam ahead of schedule. The trailer includes the major reveal of Poison, Lucia, and E. Honda as characters joining the fighter roster.
“It’s a regrettable and unintentional situation, and we have already implemented measures to prevent this error from happening again. We are fans of Street Fighter ourselves and we’re sorry for the error.”
As such, at the start of the Street Fighter V grand finals- which is not the last tournament for EVO this year– game producer Yoshinori Ono had nothing new to show, but teased that there’s still more to come to this long-running fighting game.
After apologising for the leaked announcement, he said: “Please look forward to a new Street Fighter V announcement in November and December. We will make sure Blanka has a gift in his pocket at this year’s Capcom Cup at the Novo in Los Angeles.”
Street Fighter V is now in its fourth year. While previous years- or seasons- saw new character DLC drop every few months, this season’s has a big gap of silence from its first character Kage to the triple release that should be released today.
But for fans who still are passionate for the game, there’s more to look forward to this year.
