Escape From Naraka Is A First-Person Platformer Inspired By Balinese Myths And Legends

Here’s another interesting take of a first-person platformer. Escape From Naraka is an upcoming indie game by Indonesia-based Xelo Games and to be published by Headup Games.

Like many FPS games have done before, you’re stuck in hell. But Escape From Naraka brings a different interpretation of hell, this one’s inspired by Balinese myths and legends.

And as such, the hellish landscapes of Naraka (which means hell from Sanskrit) has a different look to them. The demons you see here like the Genereuwo and Rangda the Leyak Queen look radically different to your usual western horrors.

Some of the environment assets are photo scans from real-life, so you get to see the many interesting Balinese sculptures in the hellish temples of Escape From Naraka.

The two trailers give you a glimpse of the many traversal challenges you will have to face. There’s no shooting here, it’s all about the first-person platforming, traversal from one platform to another, while demons hunt you down.

The second trailer is a treat too, you get to hear some hauntingly good gamelan as part of its soundtrack.

Escape From Naraka is set for release in Q3 2021 on PC (Steam).
