Beginning this year in 2023, the license for the World Rally Championship (WRC) has transferred over from Nacon/KT Racing to Codemasters/EA.
And as such, this year’s WRC game will be under the EA Sports label. And the title? EA Sports WRC.
Codemasters are set to be at the helm of this new rally racing game, so the Dirt Rally franchise will be going dormant for a bit in favour of the new official license game. All the previous social media accounts associated with Dirt, Codies’ off-road racing franchise that evolved out of Colin McRae Rally, has been renamed into EA Sports WRC.
The full reveal will be on September 5 on YouTube. The teaser showed all the three main Group Rally1 cars, the hybrid-powered road-legal machines in the top class of WRC. So that’s the Ford Puma Rally1, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 and Toyota GR Yaris Rally1.
Nacon and KT Racing haven’t revealed any replacement rally game for this year with their loss of the WRC license, but they are working on Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, the next big open world racing game.
