Dynasty Warriors: Origins Announced, Releasing In 2025

At the Summer 2024 State Of Play, Koei Tecmo revealed the next game from developer Omega Force, the team known for the Musou series (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and more) as well as last year’s Wild Hearts.

Their next game is a return to Dynasty Warriors. And it’s not Dynasty Warriors 10 (or in the non-English releases, Dynasty Warriors 9).

Dynasty Warriors: Origins will feature the series’ famous 1v1000 hack-and-slash gameplay, where you get to mow down literal hundreds of enemies in the battlefield.

The new trailer shows off some AAA level of graphics, which is something the series is not really known for. But the moving down of enemies and the scale of battles? That’s definitely Dynasty Warriors.

On the accompanying PlayStation Blog post, the team at Omega Force are “a team that is poised for a fresh start with this game”, even their logo was refreshed.

Interestingly, you’ll be playing as a nameless hero rather than taking control of the many different characters of The Three Kingdoms. Something must have rubbed off from fellow Koei Tecmo studio Team Ninja, where their games have now mostly feature a customisable character as the protagonist. Or maybe it’s from Wild Hearts, which also featured a customisable character. Though nothing suggests the nameless hero in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is customisable, he’s referred to as a he in that PlayStation Blog post.

The last time Omega Force tried to make significant changes to the Musou formula with Dynasty Warriors 9, it didn’t worked out. The next mainline Musou game, Samurai Warriors 5 plays it more safe despite being a reboot.

We’ll see how Dynasty Warriors: Origins pans out when it releases in 2025 for the PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
