Development Of Terraria For Stadia Resumed

Last month, the Re-Logic, developers of indie survival game Terraria publicly announced that they are cancelling the development of its port to Stadia after Google mistakenly disabled their YouTube account.

The problem continued to disable the whole Google account of Re-Logic’s co-founder Andrew Spinks-whose account tied with Re-Logic’s YouTube channel.

Efforts to privately and publicly resolved the matter had failed, leading Spinks to tweet “I can take this no other way than you deciding to burn this bridge. Consider it burned. Terraria for Google Stadia is canceled. My company will no longer support any of your platforms moving forward.”

Good news: Google solved the problem. In the latest State Of The Game dev post on the Terraria forums, the developers say this:

“After a month of pushing (and with the immense support of our fans), Google finally reached out and was able to provide a lot of transparency around the situation and to restore access to all of our accounts.

“Due to the hard work the Stadia team has put in – as well as our partners at 505 Games – we have decided that we will allow the upcoming launch Terraria on Google Stadia to proceed. The Terraria Stadia build is based on the DR Studios 1.4.0.5 (latest) build, and is currently at Google for certification review.”

So all is well for now. Stadia may not be in the business of making games themselves after the closure of Stadia Games & Entertainment, they still are continuing the service with the support of third-party developers. So Stadia, and by extension, the whole of Google, should really be quick with responding to their partners’ woes.

The issue could have been resolved for less than a month, but at least it is resolved.
