Destiny 2’s PC Release Won’t Arrive Alongside Console Release, Bungie Committed To Doing It Right

Destiny 2 has a big press event today and a lot of new features and info about the sequel to the online FPS has emerged. What has been interesting is the information regarding its PC version.

This will be the first time the series make a jump to PC. Interestingly, it will also be coming exclusively via the Blizzard app (the renamed Battle.net launcher). This will be the first non-Blizzard game to be featured on the launcher, as previous Activision games have always been available on Steam and the Windows Store.

The release date for the PC version is unconfirmed however. This tweet by industry veteran Geoff Keighly hinted that the release may not be September 8 like the console versions would be. Another tweet from him reassures that developers Bungie are “committed to the PC version right.”

In an interview with PC Gamer, it was revealed that Vicarious Visions, another Activision studio, is working closely with Bungie for the PC port.  PC lead David Shaw also clarified that it is no just an outsourced port job. “We don’t want anybody looking at the game as a console port. We wanted to make sure that it feels like a PC game, it plays like a PC game.”

A few PC-specific features have been confirmed so far, via VG 24/7:

  • 4K Resolution Support (3820×2160)
  • Uncapped framerate
  • Full mouse and keyboard support with custom key mapping
  • Text chat
  • Adjustable Field of View
  • Detailed PC settings screen
  • 21:9 monitor support

However, there would not be a dedicated server feature, and no word should a cross-account sharing between platforms will be seen.

Destiny 2 will arrive on September 8 for the PS4 and Xbox One. Let’s hope the PC version would not be far off from that date.
