Announced during the Summer Game Fest week of video game showcases was Tales Of Eternia Remastered. This is a remaster of Tales Of Eternia, known in North America as Tales Of Destiny II (not to be confused with the actual Tales Of Destiny 2), originally released in 2000 for the original PlayStation.
Bandai Namco has been releasing a bunch of remastered editions Tales Of games, and Tales Of Eternia is so far the oldest title in the series spanning 17 mainline entries to receive this treatment as part of the Tales Of Remastered Project.
Tales Of Eternia is a tale of two worlds, Infernia and Celestia. When childhood friends Reid Hershel and Farah Oersted had a chance encounter with a mysterious girl named Meredy, who speaks an unknown language, the pair discover that the two worlds will literally collide, and proceed to go on an adventure to stop this existential threat.
Tales Of Eternia Remastered will retain the fast-paced 2D battle action system, the Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System (A-LMBS). But expect the usual acrroutement of quality-of-life adjustments as seen in previous Tales Of remasters, including the ability to turn off enemy encounters and destination icons, high-speed mode for auto-battles and more.
For those who prefer the original sprite work and audio from Tales Of Eternia, the remaster includes the option to mode-switch between remastered and original graphics and sound.
While the previous Tales Of remaster was a safe one—Tales Of Berseria was only one console generation behind and isn’t exactly in dire need of a remaster all things considered—Tales Of Eternia is one of the better picks. It’s been more than 20 years since the original release, its last port was for the PSP in 2005, and with no availability on modern platforms since.
Tales Of Eternia Remastered will be out on October 15 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and October 16 for PC (Steam) in Southeast Asia.
Tales Of Eternia Remastered will also have physical releases for PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
