Deathloop, the timeloop game by Arkane Lyon, gets a new showing at the recent PS5 Showcase for September 2020.
The new gameplay trailer highlights what you can possibly do to optimise your timeloop runs. The goal is for protagonist Colt to kill all eight Visionaries within a 24-hour timeloop. Thing is, there’s always not enough time to kill each one on their own.
And here’s where the immersive sim elements start to kick in. You can manipulate the environment to your advantage, and change how the current loop play out. In this example, Colt messes up with Egor’s scientific breakthrough, which causes him to attend a party with Aleksis on the other side of the Blackreef island now that he has spare time. So you can now get two Visionaries killed at one location.
There’s a little bit of Hitman going on here- which is also a timeloop game if you think about it. Manipulating AI scripts to go your way and to your advantage will be something you will usually do in Deathloop.
But you also have to fend off the one Visionary that don’t play with this rule- Julianna. She’s either an AI that tracks you down like a Majima Everywhere System, or another player attempting to mess up your run.
Deathloop will not be released alongside the PS5 launch window. It’s now scheduled for release in Q2 2021 for the PS5 and PC.
