The reboot to Perfect Dark by new Microsoft first-party studio The Initiative is getting a partner co-developer. And it’s outside help in the form of Square Enix’s Crystal Dynamics.
“The teams couldn’t pass up a chance to work together,” a tweet from The Initiative’s account said on this news. “We’re still early in development, but incredibly excited to use this unique opportunity to deliver on the vision for Perfect Dark!”
“We thrive on reimagining epic heroes and can’t wait to realise this first-person spy thriller together,” Crystal Dynamics’ Twitter said on this news.
Before making Marvel’s Avengers, the teams at Crystal D is mostly remembered for rebooting the Tomb Raider series, twice. And it looks like they will be helping another franchise with a female lead again with Perfect Dark.
Seeing a Square Enix-owned studio working on an Xbox Game Studios project may be weird at first, but at least the personnel on The Initiative have previous experience working at Crystal Dynamics. So it’s not as random of a partnership as it might be presumed to be.
As mentioned in the tweets, Perfect Dark is still in early development. The reveal announcement only showing a teaser cinematic that only serves to reveal the title of The Initiative’s debut work.
