There are more ways to catch up on anime as anime streaming service Crunchyroll has rolled out its subscription offering through PlayStation consoles in Malaysia.
Starting today, you can subscribe to the Mega Fan membership tier of Crunchyroll on PS4 or PS5 for RM14.90 a month and access to ad-free viewing of the service’s catalogue of anime. Offline downloads on supported devices and streaming on four devices simultaneously are also included in this tier, so the sub can be used on not just your PlayStation.
Plus, subscribers of this tier also get access to the Crunchyroll Game Vault, a collection of over 100 anime-inspired games. The games are only for mobile devices, however, not playable on the PlayStation consoles.
Currently, only the Mega Fan tier is available to subscribe directly through PlayStation.
If you actually do use your PS4 and PS5 as a media player, having it be able to stream anime via Crunchyroll (which is owned by Sony but not under the same division as PlayStation) should be a boon. The subscription price is more on the affordable side as well, a lot less than Netflix for comparison, though obviously the library of content greatly differs.
Subscribing to Crunchyroll through a PlayStation console is charged through the PlayStation Wallet, so you can opt to use PlayStation Wallet top cards for this. More info on how this works can be found here.
Crunchyroll is making efforts to make anime accessible to more fans in Malaysia. The service provides access to the new and returning series, with various language options including English subtitles.
Aside from Malaysia, this PlayStation integration of Crunchyroll is also being rolled out in Indonesia and Thailand.
