2K revealed the main theme to Sid Meier’s Civilization VII at The Game Awards 2024.
The song, Live Gloriously, is composed by Grammy award-winning composer Christopher Tin and was performed live on stream.
The full song is a beautiful orchestral medley with lyrics from various great literature sung in their native languages. Passages from The Iliad are sung in Ancient Greek, Beowulf from Old English, Popol Vuh in Kʼicheʼ (it’s from the Maya people that resides in modern-day Guatemala) and Ramayana in Sanskrit.
“I wanted to capture universal themes of hope, heroism and mortality that have resonated across history,” said Tin. “You’ll hear words from The Iliad, Beowulf, Popol Vuh and Ramayana, delivering a beautiful sense of gravity and emotion that embodies the story of humanity.”
Tin won the Grammy award in 2011 for the song Baba Yetu, which was also the theme song used on Civilization IV. It’s the first piece of video game media to won the prestigious award.
The song plays in the opening cinematic, which was shown partially at the event. The full opening can be seen here:
