Capcom’s RE Engine To Be Used For Games On Next-Gen Consoles

Capcom is on a hot streak right now. Between the success of Monster Hunter: World (now sold more than 12 million copies) and the recent releases of Resident Evil 2 remake and Devil May Cry 5, things are looking good.

If you are a fan of the latter two games, powered by the RE Engine, then expect to see more Capcom games running on them in future next-gen games.

In a recent earnings call, Capcom revealed that the RE Engine is built to support the next-generation of consoles.

“The games we developed using the RE Engine during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim,” they said. “And from the early stages of building this engine, we kept the ability to augment it for next-generation development in mind.”

“As such, we view the RE Engine as one of our strengths that will contribute to next-generation game creation.”

When asked further on what games are coming that is utilising the RE Engine, Capcom declined to give a definite answer, but said that “numerous titles” are in the works, developed internally.

The RE Engine debuted with Resident Evil VII. Despite the name, the engine proved it can handle more than survival horror games as exemplified with Devil May Cry 5 (read our review here). Here’s hoping Capcom can keep the combo going into the next generation of consoles in the near future.
