Sometimes, video games can be just downright silly and makes you ask what sort of edibles the developers have been taking (affectionately). And this silly new game is a good new example of a bonkers idea.
Developed by Place Of Departure and to be published under Bohemia Interactive’s Bohemia Incubator label, Brute Horse stars Brute, the barbarian and a horse named, well, horse. In a silly, colourful yet brutal and gory world, Brute and Horse have been slaying monsters and enemies until one day Horse was brutally injured and now it can gallop anymore.
So what did Brute does to Horse, instead of riding on Horseback, he puts Horse on his back (Banjo-Kazooie style), carrying him to find a way to heal his companion.
But now Brute can’t use his sword, and he prefers brute force on account of being a barbarian and all that. So now Brute fights with Brute Horse by weaponising Horse. All consensual of coure, look at Horse locking in when he gets tossed around in the trailer.
As a video game, Brute Horse is a 2D side-scroller brawler with the occasional puzzle-solving. It has optional co-op play, but no, Player 2 isn’t playing as Horse, but another companion Michelle, the inventress that also tags along Brute and Horse’s journey to the vet.
The idea of using your companion as a weapon sure gives Brute Horse a whiplash (also shoutout to the game Whiplash which had a similar idea). Between the tongue-in-cheek tone, the gaudy yet beautiful colours the world has and the surprisingly brutal tone of the combat should really catch your attention, as did we.
Brute Horse has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PC (Steam). A demo is promised to arrive soon.
