Borderlands 4 Update Adds Much-Requested FOV Slider To Consoles, Performance Improvements And More

A new update for Borderlands 4 has rolled out today, bringing one important feature that fans been requesting since launch: a field of view (FOV) slider on consoles.

This feature is available on PC but was somehow missing on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Having the slider allows players to adjust how much of the world they can see on screen, and sometimes it’s used to avoid motion sickness, as a cramped field of view (Borderlands defaults to 75 degrees).

The update notes warn that increasing the FOV may result in worsening performance, though no indications were made within the game itself. This is more of Borderlands 4’s current optimisation struggles than the game’s mistake on not labelling this in-game, we presume.

The update also made some improvements to performance. On PS5 when playing on performance mode, the game can hold on to the 60 FPS target for longer. At launch, game performance degrade over time where it will eventually drop to 30-ish FPS unless you quit and start a new game.

The UI, which we deemed undercooked, got some time in the oven as well. One major improvement from the update is how the waypoint Echo-4 projects will now have the line start from in front of the player. Previously, the waypoint line didn’t take account to the player not orienting in the right direction, which means there were frequent instances where you simply don’t see the waypoint activated when it already has, and you have to spin around to locate the thin line which can be less visible under bright daylight especially when on a Digirunner. Our testing shows the waypoints are more reliable and we spent less time opening and closing the map as a result.

The inventory UI where marking trash from the bottom of the list, and the sorting list always switches back to filter by Manufacturer, remains an issue. But the drop-down list of the filters has been slightly embiggen to make picking the selection with the cursor much easier.

The update also has some balance adjustments for each of the Vault Hunters. And it comes alongside the weekly refresh of endgame content. Maurices’ Black Market vending machine, weekly wildcard missions and weekly Big Encore Boss have all been reset.

Borderlands 4 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S. It will be coming to Switch 2 eventually, though it has been recently delayed.
