The Shadow Of The Colossus remake, based on the PS2 classic was a success, and is a highly regarded remake project. The folks at Bluepoint Games made the right changes and kept the right things, staying true to the original experience but updated for the current generation.
So what’s next? In an interview with Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer), when asked if they recently expanded the art team hints to a new game, Bluepoint’s co-founder and president Marco Thrush denied it, saying it’s for another remake.
“Well, we could [make a new game] but we’re doing another remake.”
Thrush further explained how Shadow Of The Colossus has impacted the studio.
“This project [Shadow Of The Colossus] served us as a great point of growing the art team to the point where we can take on a full triple-A game major scope of art content.
“So now our next step is, let’s improve the art pipeline, let’s improve the engine, let’s improve workflow for artists, let’s grow on the art side some more to handle our next project because it’s a bit bigger. And our next focus is, all right, let’s work on design and add new stuff to get to the next remake, because now that can be our sole focus of making sure that’s where we put the time and everybody else, they’re already at a level where we can perform.”
Bluepoint is still not ready to start on its own entirely new game, so for now their talents have been used to make very good remakes and remasters. Aside from shadow, the developer also did work on the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection and Gravity Rush Remastered for the PS4, among many others.
