Bethesda has announced that they will be closing down its Bethesda.net launcher, its own launcher and marketplace for PC games.
Players who owned games (alongside all DLC) on the launcher, and have wallet balance, can have them all migrated to Steam. So in theory, all your investments in the launcher won’t be lost. In addition, saves will also transfer, some automatically while some require you to manually move them.
The migration process will start in early April. Bethesda.net launcher will close down in May, where games won’t be accessible anymore.
The Bethesda.net account will still be around, used in several games by the publisher.
Bethesda tried to move away from Steam by having PC games launching on its own proprietary launcher, Fallout 76 was one of the titles to launch there first before eventually being released on Steam.
Now that Bethesda is under Microsoft, and Microsoft has been staunchly supporting its PC games release to be on Steam alongside its own Microsoft Store, it’s understandable why maintaining their own niche launcher doesn’t really make sense anymore.
Hopefully, the migration process is as seamless as the FAQ page is describing it here.
