Guacamelee! is a pretty good Metroidvania featuring a colourful land inspired by Mexican culture. Indie developers Drinkbox Studios are now ready to release the sequel. It’s time to suit again as your favourite luchador superhero Juan as he embark on a new adventure.
As seen in this new trailer, Juan still has his movesets from the past game but there are few new additions, most evidently is his pollo (which means chicken in Spanish) powers. Juan’s new pollo powers are so many that the developers say that they “embedded a genre-busting Pollovania completely inside of the main story’s Metroidvania.
“The only such game in existence as of the writing of this post… probably.”
Aside from new unlockable moves, there will also be new upgrades learned from doing training challenges, featuring familar faces such as Flame Face from the first game.
There will be at least 11 locations, as shown from the World Map menu screenshot on the Playstation Blog post. “Thanks to our poor planning, we were forced to create a much larger game than the original,” the post reads. “You can expect a bigger, badder world, with all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies to explore and conquer.”
As you might have realised, there’s a certain charm of humour around the game. The first game was a highly competent Metroidvania with two player drop-in drop-out co-op sprinkled with some good gags here and there.
Guacamelee! 2 will be out on August 21st on PS4 and PC.
