ASUS ROG Unveils 2023 Refresh For Strix G, Strix SCAR Gaming Laptops

At CES 2023, Asus ROG unveiled its 2023 refresh for the Strix gaming laptop lineup, consisting of the mid-high power ROG Strix G and the top-end Strix SCAR.

New for 2023 is the introduction of 16-inch and 18-inch panels. These 16:10 aspect ratio screens are a new form factor, and comes with Intel Core CPUs. The 17-inch variants are still around, powered by AMD chips, but the 15.6″ size has been phased out for this year.

The 2023 Strix G and Strix SCAR gaming laptops are also powered by the latest Nvidia RTX 40 Series GPUs, now in gaming laptop mode. Considering the big chonk the desktop GPUs are, the mobile version of the same chips are less power-hungry (max TDP is at 175W on the RTX 4090 mobile, as compared to the desktop’s whopping 450W). Plus, MUX Switch and Nvidia Advance Optimus are offered on not only the flagship Strix SCAR, but the Strix G as well.

Still, some design tweaks are made to accommodate the laptops’ increasing cooling demands as a result. ROG has now incorporated Tri-Fan technology into the new-for-2023 16-inch and 18-inch laptops, first seen in the 2022 ROG Flow X16. Three internal cooling fans instead of two. The heatsink is also widened, as much as the press release says it’s now “full-width”, which should improve heat dissipation. New cooling vents, the use of Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal and 7 heat pipes are also part of the cooling package.

The 17-inch models do not have the new extra fans and wider heatsink. But they do use the same Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal. The SCAR 17 also makes use of a vapour chamber for cooling.

Design-wise, the ROG Strix gaming laptops have gone even more subtle and less flashy, with the Strix G looking like a normal grey slab of a laptop from the rear and top. There ate still flashes of detail though, like the small ROG logo pattern on the angled line at the rear.

And as expected, all the ROG laptops come with Windows 11 as standard.

Here are the specs of the Asus ROG Strix G (2023) and Asus ROG Strix SCAR (2023).
