Anthem Not Getting Its Rework After All, Anthem Next Cancelled

Anthem, Bioware’s flawed action RPG that’s more of a looter-shooter, isn’t getting a rework after all. Today, Bioware announced that work on Anthem Next has ceased.

Anthem Next was the working title of a total systems overhaul for the maligned shooter. It would include complete changes to how you get skills, a new skill tree and more. But that will never happen.

Anthem will remain as it now is, with servers still running and remain as it is today.

“Game development is hard,” Bioware’s Christian Daley said in the post. “Decisions like these are not easy. Moving forward, we need to laser focus our efforts as a studio and strengthen the next Dragon Age, and Mass Effect titles while continuing to provide quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

Bioware has lost its reputation of being a developer with quality RPG releases as of late. And it looks like Bioware and publisher EA decided that a Mass Effect remaster is the better option to win back the goodwill of fans.

There’s a new Mass Effect game in the works, and the new Dragon Age seems more likely to happen soon. So Bioware is still busy. But it won’t be busy reviving Anthem anymore.
