Looks like the open world game about just about everything Ananta isn’t coming out this year, in a year stacked of open world games.
At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, publisher NetEases Games and developer Naked Rain revealed a new trailer showing more of what you can do in the city. Well, cities. The trailer reveals a second city, the Chinese-Inspired Chongxiao, that is fully explorable as the previously revealed Nova City.
Previously known as Project Mugen (with “Mugen” being the Japanese word for infinite), Ananta (which is the Sanskrit word for infinite) will let players enjoy life in the city, travel in various modes of transportation (the trailer shows bikes and skateboards), meet people and build relationships, and walk in the shoes of various people from an officer to a delivery rider. Oh, you can fight in various ways.
2026 is stacked with urban open world games. Neverness To Everness (NTE) released this year, a new Gangstar game just dropped and of course, there’s the one big game the entire video game industry and beyond are setting their sights on when it launches, Grand Theft Auto VI.
Makes sense for Ananta to head out of dodge and picked a release window that’s less crowded, though it is launching on the same day as the Yakuza/Like A Dragon developer’s next open world game, Stranger Than Heaven.
Ananta will be free-to-play and will launch on January 15 for PS5, PC (Steam, standalone client) iOS and Android. Pre-registration is now available.
