505 Games is celebrating the anniversary of the launch of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the exceptional fast-paced soulslike action-RPG developed by Leenzee.
The publisher, who has since acquired the full rights to the IP, has announced that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has had 5 million players worldwide since launch.
The use of “players” here instead of “units/copies sold” here means this number counts those who played the game through game subscription services. Wuchang is available through Game Pass at launch, and was offered as a part of the monthly game access on PS Plus.
That said, Wuchang did hit 131,000 concurrent players on Steam at its peak at launch, which is quite the number considering the game is a single-player title.
To celebrate the anniversary, 505 Games has shared a new hand-drawn artwork by content creator Shimi (Shi咪) (pictured above) and a short montage of the action seen throughout the game, including glimpses of its parry-heavy boss fights.
505 Games has again reaffirmed their stance on growing and evolving the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers IP as they declare the game having “strong commercial and critical performance.”
In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, players take on the titular Bai Wuchang who found herself in the land of Shu with little recollection of memory. Players explore the decaying and plague-ridden lands set in during the dying days of the Ming Dynasty.
As per our review, Wuchang draws heavily from Bloodborne for its theming and level design (it’s not as obvious, but it’s there), with the faster-paced, parry-focused combat inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, making one of the more standout soulslikes out there.
Though over the course of its release cycle, the game was heavily updated that includes wide-sweeping changes to the game (some of the more diabolical traps we praised have been removed) and story. RPGamer has an interesting piece discussing the peculiar changes to Wuchang after Update 1.5.
