Here’s some good news. Capcom will be removing Character Edit Vouchers in Monster Hunter Wilds.
The change isn’t live yet, it will released as a Ver.2 free update to the base game that will arrive alongside the paid expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendence.
Once the update is live by next year, you can edit your Hunter and Palico at any time without having to spend Character Edit Vouchers, which is sold as microtransactions.
Character Edit Vouchers for Monster Hunter Wilds will be removed on December 3, 2026. On that date, players will all be gifted 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers as a stop-gap measure while the free base game update arrives later in 2027 when you can freely edit at no cost.
Those who spent money on these vouchers will be getting a special pendant item as a token of appreciation.
The odd monetisation of character edits has been in a number of Monster Hunter games, and in our Monster Hunter Wilds review, we called it out as a weird thing to monetise, especially when standard practice in most paid games of Monster Hunter scale don’t adopt this practice.
It’s a nice little change, especially when you don’t need to spend real money to adjust how your character looks, which can come off looking very different due to the way lighting works in the game, for some reason, that doesn’t match what they appear during the character edit menu.
Monster Hunter Wilds had an explosive start to its launch with over 8 million copies sold in less than a week since release, but fizzled out of public discourse rather quick.
Monster Hunter: Ascendence will see hunters take to the skies in biomes with more verticality, a continuation of the base game’s story with a time skip applied, and of course, new and returning monsters to hunt.
The game and new expansion are also set to launch on Switch 2 as well, which would sound ridiculous in 2025 given the base game’s performance issues then (and Capcom’s RE Engine games general performance with open worlds). But with Dragon’s Dogma 2 (also coming to Switch 2) had received updates with performance improvements and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword (which also has an open world component) running buttery smooth, that’s less of a worry this time around.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendence will be releasing in 2027 for the PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
