Officially revealed during the September 2026 State Of Play broadcast is a new brick-built replica of the PS1 by Lego.
The Lego PlayStation (72306) set is a faithful recreation of the original PlayStation, usually abbreviated back then as the PSX and abbreviated today as the PS1 and the original controller, not the DualShock but the one without the analog sticks.
This set is considered a display set made for adults who are looking for a nostalgia rush and have a some form of a PS1 adorned their living space, office or game room.
Lego claims that this is a “nearly 1:1 scale” to the real thing. For comparison, the original PlayStation’s dimensions are approximately 63.5 mm x 275mm x 190mm. The Lego PlayStation is 60mm x 260mm x 190mm. Yeah, that’s close enough. It’s definitely bigger than the PlayStation Classic.
The Lego PlayStation set has a working Open button, in that it lifts off the cover of the disc drive. There is no disc drive as this set can’t play any form of disc (unfortunate timing, given recent news) but inside the set hides two small dioramas based on PlayStation classics: Ape Escape and Gran Turismo.
Having Ape Escape represented in a PS1 without the DualShock is a choice, given that the platformer’s legacy is how it legitimise the addition of two analog sticks on the controller, which persists until now. Having Gran Turismo there, now that’s a good choice. The diorama with autumnal trees pairs perfectly with the recent reveal that Gran Turismo 7 is adding Autumn Ring again in an upcoming update.
The Power button works, though instead of glowing LED it’s just one coloured green Lego piece that pops up and down. The brick-built PlayStation controller can be plugged in either of the two available slots. Or, through the magic of buying two of them, plug two brick-built replica PlayStation controllers into one replica PlayStation.
As this is a display set, with a black box (shout out to the box art replicating the one seen on the original PlayStation’s box), it costs something a working adult could ever spend on. In Malaysia, the Lego PlayStation set 72306 costs RM699.90 and will be available starting October 4.
