ASUS Malaysia has launched the 2020 refresh for the ROG Strix gaming laptops in the country. This includes the ROG Strix G and ROG Strix Scar series.
This year’s Strix lineup uses a premium liquid metal for its thermal paste (used on all the ROG line with 10th-gen CPUs) and now has Wi-Fi 6.
The ROG Strix G15 debuted last year with a bang, featuring a sleek, subtle and futuristic design. The 2020 refresh features a similar look (though with new colour choices). This year’s Strix G starts at a GTX 1660Ti graphics card at minimum, and an RTX 2060 at the most.
Its show-stopper feature, the wrap-around light bar, (or as we like to call it, underglow RGB), remains present.

As you can see, unlike the 2019 version, the ROG Strix G is now in premium, RM6,000+ territory. However, the models do address one of our usual criticism with gaming laptops- storage and RAM.
Asus packs 16GB RAM and 1TB of SSD storage as default, something we don’t see in other brands for this year. Impressive.
If you want to go even more over-the-top, there’s the ROG Strix Scar lineup. First designed for FPS in mind- hence the name that sounds like a gun- the Strix Scar line is the flagship ROG line for pure gaming. It also has per-key RGB as well as the underglow RGB.
Just like last year, it still has the Keystone, now called Keystone 2. It’s a proprietary dongle that you can save and carry over settings, or keep encrypted files in. The 2020 Strix Scar in Malaysia also has a 240Hz screen.
