11 bit Studios’ Next Game Will Not Be Sad And Depressing

11 bit Studios are a publisher/developer of indie games. Their own developed games, This War Of Mine and Frostpunk, have a resounding, meaningful message. Both games are also dour, sad and depressing.

But their next game, codenamed Project 8, will not be as depressing.

In an interview with Eurogamer, lead designer Marta Fijak explains the somber tone is not the unifying theme with 11 bit Studios’ games.

“People sometimes look at This War of Mine and Frostpunk and the common denominator for them is sadness, a kind of depression, but for me, his is not true,” Fijak said.

“The common denominator for those games is meaningful experience. One tells a pretty important story about what happens to civilians during war; the other says how far will you go to ensure survival.”

Project 8 will take a different turn, but will still be a meaningful experience.

“If you’re someone who thinks of 11 bit’s games as sad and depressing, then, you’re in for “a twist”. This one is not sad and depressing,” she said.

“This is a celebration of one of the parts of our experience – celebrating that thing which, in my perspective, is really important for humans.”

Project 8 is in-between the pre-production and production stage. Unlike previous games, which are getting console version later after the PC version ships, this game will be developed on PC and consoles simultaneously.
