What To Expect In Gran Turismo 7’s Future Updates

Gran Turismo 7, Polyphony Digital’s latest numbered title of its popular racing game series is out now on PS4 and PS5. At the moment it’s quite loaded with content, more than the previous Gran Turismo Sport launched with.

But just like GT Sport, Polyphony has the intention of continuing to update GT7 post-launch, bringing new content for players.

In a post on the official Gran Turismo site, it has been stated the following will be added in future updates:

  • New courses
  • New cars
  • New World Circuits events
  • More Mission races
  • More Music Rally songs
  • More engine parts to swap
  • New Lobby features
  • New Time Trials for Sport Mode
  • Improvements to the penalty algorithm and overall quality of online races

New tracks and cars are a no-brainer. GT Sport received regular updates on a monthly basis which added new cars, and some big updates brought in new tracks.

As it stands right now, GT7 has 424 cars at launch, and 34 locations with 97 layouts.

Mission Races are objective-based one-off events that can be anything from overtaking cars in a section of a track, overtaking all the cars under one lap, mileage challenges, drift trials, drag races and more. Music rally is the arcade-style racing mode where you drive around a track while passing through checkpoints, but instead of seconds added to the clock, you race with the beat of the music.

For tuner heads, you can expect to see more tuning parts, in particular upgrades to the engine, will be expanded.

Multiplayer fans should be relieved to know that more features are coming. The penalty algorithm will always continue to change- it had its ups and downs back in GT Sport- so hopefully, any tweaks to it will be more subtle and less rage-inducing.

GT Sport had three years of post-launch updates, so let’s hope GT7 can at least match that level of commitment.

We’re still playing through Gran Turismo 7, expect our review of the game coming soon.
