The upcoming content update for free-to-play game Warframe, Techrot Encore, will include four new Protoframes and has now been unveiled.
First feature in Warframe 1999, these Protoframes are human-Warframe hybrids, which essentially give a human face to the mostly faceless homunculi players been controlling throughout this long-running live service game.
Unlike the original six Protoframes that was part of The Hex faction, these four Protoframes are non-romanceable, but they will be intractable via KIM, the game’s in-game chat system. But like the initial batch of Protoframes, the next new Warframe will feature a Protoframe.
The new protoframes are
- Minerva (Saryn)
- Velimir (Frost)
- Kaya (Nova)
- Flare (Temple-new Warframe)
The toxic mommy that is Saryn has her human counterpart, Minerva to be an actual toxic mommy (in that her quip in the reveal trailer is fighting words). And Frost’s Protoframe Velimir is the daddy here, who looks the part, but he’s actually just a chill old dude. The two are a married couple (hence the no romance option), though their relationship could use some work.
Kaya being the young savant, the youngest of the Protoframes, should be enough of a reason why she isn’t romancable, though it’s not too clear what’s the deal with Flare. But in all likelihood, we’ll discover why developer Digital Extremes made the call to not make these batch of character romanceable in due time.
Similar to the previous Protoframes, they are also available as Gemini skins, allowing your Warframe to switch to their Protoframe skin with unique lines.
The recent Warframe devstream also revealed more content to come with the Techrot Encore update which includes:
- Temporal Archimedea (new twist to endgame mode Deep Archimedia, with collectable stickers as modifiers)
- New KIM conversations with Minerva, Velimir, Kaya, and Flare
- New location in Höllvania Central Mall: The Round Table pub
- Purchasable furniture decorations from Valimir
- New Scaldra weapon blueprints purchasable from Minerva
- Temple Warframe blueprints and signature weapon blueprints from Flare
- New mini-game: Ollie’s Crash Course (uses Atomicycle in time trial races)
- Ash “retouch” (light rework on Ash’s abilities)
- New music
Techrot Encore update for Warframe will be out on March 19. The game is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and iOS.
