Ubisoft Finally Made Discovery Tour For Assassin’s Creed Mirage, But It’s An App

Ubisoft has released Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad, a free app for iOS and Android devices, as well as through a web browser.

This is the latest of Ubisoft’s Discovery Tour release. This turned the setting of Assassin’s Creed games into a proper educational experience for those looking to learn and explore the real-life history and lore that inspired the open-world action-RPGs.

While previous Discovery Tours are more or less stripped out versions of the Assassin’s Creed games they are based of (they are still video games more or less), Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad is completely separated from Assassin’s Creed Mirage it is based on. It’s a mobile app.

Quite the change after Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt (based on Assassin’s Creed Origins) Discovery Tour: Greece (based on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey) and Discovery Tour: Viking Age (based on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) requiring a console or capable PC to run them.

Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad allows players to explore Baghdad during the heights of the Abbasid Caliphate. There are two ways to interact with the app. The first, Access Codex, lets players browse to Codex entries as seen in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. There’s also an Augmented Reality feature of the app where you can discover additional historical information and see 3D scans of various real-life artifacts. The other way, Explore Baghdad, gamifies the experience as players collect Codex entries through “a series of mini-games and 360° exploration” in an approximately 2-hour experience.

Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad is developed in partnership with Sugar Creative, a UK-based “immersive technology company” which explains the switch from a video game-based experience into an app one.

The Assassin’s Creed titles have a good history of presenting its real-life history inspirations authentically. Since the Discovery Tour series is continuing, there’s a possibility the next one based on the latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows will likely happen sometime soon.

Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad is free and available on iOS, Android and through a web browser.
