Ubisoft Connect Cloud Save Issue On PC Causes Watch Dogs: Legion Players Hours Of Lost Progress

Watch Dogs: Legion is out now but if you’re playing on PC, it’s still a rough experience on the technical side.

A Reddit post on r/uplay has appeared where players reported hours of lost progress due to the game’s cloud saves not working properly. Some replied on the thread have reported up to 6 hours of progress. We can confirm that it has affected on our end here as well.

Ubisoft recently rebranded its Uplay PC client (and Ubisoft Club mobile app) to Ubisoft Connect, and brings with it cloud saves that work across multiple platforms.

The problem right now that many players (including us) have faced is that the cloud saves don’t work as reliably and thus caused lost of game progression.

Upon quitting Watch Dogs: Legion to the main menu, the game essentially froze while it’s supposed to be saving progress to the cloud. On our end, we tried leaving it up to 10 minutes and the game still isn’t properly saving. It remain freezing in the pause menu.

Players who resorted to Alt-F4 to close the game will find them losing valuable progress, like a mission need doing again, or a character needed recruiting again.

There is no way of manually saving the game in Watch Dogs: Legion. The game uses only autosaves.

No proper solution to this issue is available at the time of writing, but we’ll update the story should it be resolved either through a solution you can apply, or a fix on Ubisoft’s end.

UPDATE 4/11/20: PC Gamer has reported that Ubisoft are aware of the problem. “We’re aware some players are having difficulties and we’re looking to address these issues in an upcoming patch by November 9,” the statement by a Ubisoft rep reads. In the meantime, you can try this workaround that disables cloud saves by Redditor Natanaeltedja.

UPDATE 12/11/20: Ubisoft Connect’s cloud saves seem to be working as intended now, so the problem here should be fixed without needing to use workarounds anymore.

Watch Dogs: Legion is out now on PS4, PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), and Xbox One. It will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on launch.
