Activision has revealed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, the previously teased remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, releasing this July.
This blast from the 2000s where extreme sport and skateboarding video games reign supreme is developed by Iron Galaxy Studios in collaboration with Activision and the birdman himself, Tony Hawk.
All the past starting skaters featured in THPS3 and THPS4 returns in their current, older form bar one: Bam Margera hasn’t been mentioned or seen in press release, blog posts and reveal trailer.
However, his brother who was part of the band CKY is still in the game. 96 Quite Bitter Beings by CKY, Amoeba by Adolescents, Mass Appeal by Gang Starr, Not The Same by Bodyjar, Outta Here by KRS-One are all namechecked to reappear in the new remake alongside Motorhead’s Ace Of Spades, which you can here from the trailer.
The trailer itself shows off the new remade look of the classic parks. Foundry, Airport, Los Angeles, Canada, Rio (that shot of a skater pulling a Christ Air while Christ the Redeemer overlooks the skate park from afar though) Cruise Ship and Tokyo in THPS3 are shown.
And there is a shot of a skater “Skitchin'” behind a car into a quarter pipe jump and looks to about to pull a spine transfer at the start, so THPS4’s game-changing mechanics are here.
Plus, there’s one other returning skater: Doomguy. Well, he’s called the Doom Slayer these days. But the secret unlockable skater in the PC version of THPS3 is now a DLC character for those that purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition.
He’ll be ripping, tearing and shredding alongside the Revenant (with his Doot trumpet) as two extra characters alongside other additional content available from the Digital Deluxe Edition.
There will be secret unlockables in THPS3+4, but there’s no telling if they will all be the same secret skaters from the original two games. THPS1+2 didn’t have the licensed secret skaters the originals did. And getting the license for the Doom Slayer was likely easier to pull off these days considering Activision and Doom series’ publisher Bethesda are under the same parent company.
Alongside confirmed returning skaters, parks and music there will also be new skaters, parks and music. New skaters including Rayssa Leal, Chloe Covell, Jamie Foy, Zion Wright, and Yuto Horigome will be in the game. A new park was revealed near the end of the trailer: the aptly name Waterpark. And expect new tracks “that capture the spirit of modern skate culture” to join the soundtrack that many old-school players have listened on loop in each 2-minute session.
THPS3+4 will have two seperate tours in the Career Mode. You can also do Single Sessions and Speedrun mode, as well as just chill out in Free Skate. Cross-play multiplayer for up to eight players is confirmed, and the controls should be the same as in THPS1+2.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 launches on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on July 11.
