Tokyo RPG Factory is a developer under Square Enix to capture the glory days of RPGs in the veins of Chrono Trigger. Despite clear influences, their past two games, I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, have not exactly evoked the success of the games the studio is inspired from.
Their new game announced at the recent Nintendo Direct, Oninaki, might be an interesting one.
New tidbits of the game have been revealed. A new issue of Weekly Famitsu has a write-up on the game, with several staff members being revealed, including a former veteran that worked on the original Chrono Trigger.
Takashi Tokita, who was one of the directors and scenario writer of the seminal SNES RPG, is working on Oninaki in the role of creative producer.
Aside from that, the game director is Atsushi Hashimoto, who directed the developers’ two previous game. Another returning staff member is Hirotaka Inaba who is the scenario writer.
Additionally, Oninaki is already 65% done. The game is set to release sometime this summer for the PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
