2K revealed a new gameplay trailer for Gearbox Software’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase.
The Borderlands spin-off might have looked like a standalone expansion first, but the gameplay trailer really showed there’s a lot of new stuff going on here.
There are the familiar guns from familiar manufactures from Borderlands 3. But there are also new guns like a crossbow. Also, you can cast magic spells, from shooting lighting from the fingertips to area-of-effect freeze magic. It also looks like you’ll have some abilities that make you go into the third-person like hammer slams and hammer swings.
Gone are the post-apocalyptic sci-fi environments and enemies and in comes more fantasy and fantastical ones. You are essentially playing a Bunkers & Badasses campaign with Tiny Tina in the DM seat.
Explore castles, mushroom caves, beaches with beached whales and an orange soda river? The enemies also come in a fantasy variety including dragons, dancing mushrooms of death, land sharks, spooky scary skeletons and even chest mimics.
There’s also an overworld you can explore, where your character goes all tiny with big heads.
Here’s the new gameplay trailer, which is interestingly set to the tune of Babymetal:
As previously revealed, Wonderlands will have you create your own custom character instead of picking from a determined selection. You can also multiclass, with access to six different skill trees to mix and match abilities with (instead of three in previous Borderlands games, and four with the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC).
Like the Borderlands games, Wonderlands can be played solo or co-op with up to three friends, online or local split-screen.
And yes, there is loot. It’s still a looter shooter. But this time, there’s also.. lute.
Pre-orders are now available, including on PS Store Asia. Note that you will need to pay extra for the next-gen version (labelled as Next-Level Editions). The standard edition is available for RM259 for PS4, and RM310 for Next-Level Edition which includes the PS4 and PS5 versions. On the Epic Games Store, pricing starts at RM189.
