The Watch In Far Cry 6 Has An In-Game Perk, And You Can Buy One In Real Life

Here’s some mildly interesting news for you, or a really interesting one if you collect wristwatches for a hobby. Far Cry 6, Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world FPS will feature a partnership with watchmakers Hamilton.

During your adventures as Dani Rojas to free the fictional land of Yara, at one point in the game you will be given a watch that adds a “keeps on ticking” perk that raises your defence while sprinting.

But it’s not just an ordinary watch, it’s the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Automatic watch sporting a limited-edition look.

The Far Cry Limited-Edition Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Automatic is also something you can buy in real-life too. The red seconds hand (a tribute to the revolutionaries of Yara) and the design of the 6 number to mirror the Far Cry 6 logo are what makes it different from your regular Khaki Field Titanium Automatics.

It’s also limited to 1983 pieces, the number being specifically chosen to reflect the in-game event where the previous watch-owner, the ruler of Santos Espinosa island, was assassinated- in 1983.

“Hamilton’s Khaki Field isn’t merely an accessory choice or functional asset but is truly integrated into Yara’s history with a connection to the island’s deposed leader,” said Omar Bouali, Game Content Director, Ubisoft Toronto. “It’s a small detail that adds immense authenticity to the cinematic world we’ve created.”

Hamilton watches have appeared as product placements in various films over the years, but if you don’t look for it, you probably missed it. This is probably why this one particular watch is being tied into not only the game’s story, but also gameplay.

“We know from experience that designing a prop watch for the screen doesn’t always immediately translate to a real-world product,” said Hamilton CEO Vivian Stauffer. “It made the idea of someone wearing this limited-edition piece while also using it as wrist gear in-game an extremely exciting prospect and we can’t wait to see it in action.”

Out of context, the idea of some guerilla fighter getting their hand on a very expensive watch (priced at a cool CHF 1,120, or around RM5,058) is a bit ridiculous, especially for an ad. But we’ll see how well integrated this piece of time wear is as a product placement when Far Cry 6 launches on October 7 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
