The Sims 4 Updates Nasi Lemak To Look More Like Nasi Lemak

A new The Sims 4 game update has arrived ahead of the upcoming release of the new Crystal Creations Stuff Pack DLC. The patch notes revealed a lot of fixed issues, but there’s one in particular that is interesting to fellow Southeast Asians.

Under the “For Rent” part of the patch notes, it reads:

“Nasi Lemak has a more accurate model to represent this delicious dish & the previous visual dish has been added as the new recipe Coconut Rice.”

Nasi Lemak was apparently one of the new food dishes that was added to The Sims 4 For Rent expansion. It’s a Malaysian staple (as well as various parts of the world) that is usually a plate of fatty coconut rice with cut of hard-boiled egg, some crunchy fried anchovies and peanuts, slices of cucumber and a slathering of sambal.

The rendition in For Rent isn’t like the one described here. It just looked like a rice dish, served in a bowl. It looks more like Chinese Fried Rice, or even Shrimp Fried Rice.

The new rendition of Nasi Lemak, as posted by @onlyabidoang on Twitter, looks much more in line with what a typical plate of Nasi Lemak is. They even added a chicken piece on the plate.

The previous rendition of Nasi Lemak is still in the game, just labeled as Coconut Rice.

However, the game still labels Nasi Lemak as “vegetarian safe” which it is absolutely not, given the choice of proteins that are on that plate Sims can cook.

There are many aspects of Southeast Asian culture that The Sims 4 For Rent expansion that the development team got right, but it looks like this one wasn’t it. Simmers, including content creator Matinee, have reported how dissimilar the look of Nasi Lemak is in the game compared to the real thing.

The Nasi Lemak update for The Sims 4 is now live on consoles, PC and Mac.
