The New Lenovo Legion Y530 Gaming Laptop Is A Completely New Redesign, Now Available In Malaysia

Lenovo has refreshed its Legion gaming line this year. Introduced last year, the Legion brand is a nice nod to its old laptop lineups that have already been great for gaming despite not being promoted for it and a cheaper price point.

But with many OEMs joining the gaming laptop niche nowadays, it’s harder to just do the same thing again. Which is probably why Lenovo has opted for a big redesign for this year’s lineup like the Legion Y530.

Gone are the many red accents, RGB lighting and bulky look of past year’s model. And in comes a display with small bezels, and a shell that looks sleek and simple at first glance you might thought it was a ThinkPad machine. Lenovo is calling this as a new “industrial” look to the Legion lineup, with a focus on portability.

A lot of the ports have been moved to the back. A dual-blade cooling setup with plenty of air vents at the back gives hints of its gaming prowess despite the ultrabook-like design. The Y530 is only 2.3kg.

Yet it is still a gaming machine. Interestingly, there’s two variants available but both are highly customisable as seen on Lenovo Malaysia’s online store. But here’s the recommended specs as suggested by the site:

Lenovo Y530 with Nvidia GTX 1050

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8300H
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB DDR5
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4
  • Storage: 1TB HDD (7200rpm), 128GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe
  • Price: RM 3,624

Lenovo Y530 with Nvidia GTX 1050Ti

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8750H
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 4GB DDR5
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • Storage: 256GB SSD M.2 PCIe
  • Price: RM 5,216

No, that is not a typo. Despite being recommended as the model with the 1050Ti, the default gives you the non Ti card instead, oddly enough.

However, you can customise the GPU, RAM, storage and other options if you buy it online via Lenovo Malaysia’s online store, with a RM200 discount code available right now. The major redesign is certainly an interesting move. For fans of the subtle sleeper look that does not scream “gamer” from a mile away, this looks like a nice change. The Legion line did that previously, but this is doubling down on that philosophy even more.

More Legion products such as C530 Cube, T530 Tower, Y730 Laptop, C730 Cube and T730 Tower will be coming to Malaysia later this year.
