Overwatch League isn’t the only new esports league starting this week. The Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) has shortlist the top 10 teams that are qualified for its inaugural season, beginning 12th January.
Each team will face each other for a total of 45 matches. The first half of the season will run for four weeks until 4th of February and the second half resumes from 23rd February to 11th March.
The 10 teams are all from Malaysian and Singapore, selected from over 1,000 that participated in the qualifiers. In the opening season, each match consists of two games, with one point and $250 USD awarded for each game win.
So it’s not just about placing at the top at the leaderboards, each game matters as there’s money on the line. This should make the matches more exciting, even by the end of the season.
The teams competing in MPL Season 1 are:
- Falcon 7
- Team Saiyan
- Mystic Burden
- Tyrants
- Equaliser
- MYA
- Louvre SG
- MYA 3

- IDNS SG
“We’re very happy with the support from Malaysian and Singaporean Mobile Legends gamers during the MPL open qualifiers, with over 1,000 teams who signed up, and 240,000+ viewers on YouTube and Facebook,” said Lee Choong Khay, VP of Sports Business at Astro.
“As we continue to the next phase, we’re looking forward to many more epic games, and working with the 10 teams to create more behind the scenes esports highlights for the fans and our community.”
