The Division 2 Season 9 Brings New Content, Begins May 12

Finally, the long-overdue new content for Ubisoft’s The Division 2 has arrived. Season 9, Hidden Alliance, won’t be a re-run like Seasons 5-8 were.

Seasonal content will require owning The Division 2 Warlords Of New York expansion.

That story will have a new target to take down, Captain Lewis, former Division commander and now a traitor. You will be gathering intel and then fighting against four higher-ranking True Sons soldiers before you can take down Captain Lewis.

Season 9 also brings a new mode, Countdown. This is an 8-player co-op mode where you have 15 minutes to stabilise a power plant and prevent a lockdown. Split into two teams of four at different points of the map, you will be working together in facing familiar enemies, securing the plant, and then calling for extraction before the timer is up.

And for those looking for more ways to see numbers go up, The Division 2 is also adding a new Expertise feature. Expertise adds more points to your base value stats. You gain expertise by using any item, and using more varied items increases your Expertise level.

Also, Season 9 comes with a new battle pass full of new (not re-run) items to unlock, both on the free and premium tiers (which requires the Season 9 Pass).

If you’re not in the mood for playing and rather just watch streamers play The Division 2, there will be Twitch Drops starting on May 12 until May 31. Twitch streamers listed under the The Division 2 directory are eligible for Twitch Drops. Tune in and you can score yourself a Legacy Cache, two High-End Caches and one Exotic Cache. Each reward will drop after every hour of stream watching.

If you’ve yet to try out The Division 2, there will be a free weekend from May 13 to May 15 available on PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. This will only give access to the base game – so you can’t really see the new Season 9 stuff.
