The Culling: Origins Is Shutting Down In May

The Culling was at the time in 2016, seemed to be leading to something cool. It has all the battle royale elements before PUBG cemented that idea. Last year, developers Xaviant released The Culling 2, but it was so broken it was delisted from Steam and support continued to The Culling, now The Culling: Origins, and transitioned that to free-to-play.

It didn’t work, as The Culling: Origins is shutting down on May 19th. As the developer blog post revealed:

“When we launched the Origins update and made the game free to play, our hope was that the revenue generated from in-app purchases would be enough to sustain our team and support ongoing development, but unfortunately that was not the case.

“Even with thousands of active daily users, the revenue was only a fraction of what our dev team required to continue daily operations.

“As a result, we’ve been forced to reduce our team size, which renders us unable to provide ongoing support and updates that would allow the game to grow and thrive.”

It is unclear what will happen to the developers. Though they are exploring options of handing the game over to interested parties.
