The Cool Things We Saw At Cos-Mic 2025

Cos-Mic 2025 was the latest ACG event held in Malaysia last weekend at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre. Thanks to Bandai Namco Entertainment’s invitation, we were able to have a looksie at what’s up with one of the newer ACG events in the country.

This relatively smaller scale event packs a lot more things to see for the gaming side of the AGC con-goers than usual, and that’s mostly due to Bandai Namco bringing in their games exhibition setup, complete with stage props (look at that big baby taking up all that space!) and themed booth designs. Three of the titles showcased are upcoming releases, so this is the rare chance for Malaysians to get a feel of upcoming titles like Little Nightmares III, Towa And The Sacred Tree and Digimon Story Time Stranger. And if you missed out on Super Robot Wars Y and haven’t checked out the free demo, Bandai Namco is out here giving the mecha anime crossover RPG some good marketing push.

And it’s not just Bandai Namco being out here representing games. Sony has a big presence as well promoting their big Bravia TVs and of course, the PlayStation 5. Multiple PS5 setups were available for attendees to try out different games, a lot of them were surprisingly fighting games, some being appropriately anime fighters. Setups for the recently released Lost Soul Aside and last year’s Stellar Blade are here too, though they’re the same publicly available demos you can download at home should you own a PS5 (or PC).

(On another note, one of the provided controller at the Stellar Blade setup has seen serious damage to the L1 button and left analog stick. Somebody must’ve been really pissed they didn’t get the parry timing correct and raged. Oof. Good thing the booth prepared another spare controller even for the single-player game setups.)

The Sony booth has some ads going for the Chainsaw Man anime as well as their upcoming PS5 game, Ghost Of Yōtei. It’s impressive that the ads were just landscape shots of the world, including the sight of Yōtei-sama, the mountain that’s the namesake of the upcoming open world game. There’s a few cardboard stands of the ghost herself, Atsu, around the booth as well.

Acer’s Predator gaming line had a booth too, showing off its gaming laptop range with displays and playable setups, from racing sims to fighting games. And on this note, we like to highlight the prevalence of one particular fighting game throughout Cos-Mic 2025: Tekken 8.

It’s now common knowledge that the Malaysian gamer’s choice of fighting game is some good-ass Tekken. And at this show alone you’d see this being true. The Sony booth has a Tekken 8 setup. The Predator booth has a Tekken 8 setup. Heck, there’s a non-gaming company’s booth that lets you test their sound system for a living room gaming setup and the game of choice? Yeah, also Tekken.

But shout out to the Razer booth outside for being the outlier. They instead prepared a setup for Skullgirls for anyone looking to try out their leverless controller for fighting games, the Razer Kitsune.

On the topic of outside, Cygames has an official booth for the popular horsegirl-racing management game, Umamusume: Pretty Derby here at Cos-Mic 2025.

There’s… not much on display, however. Though there is a tribute shine opposite to the booth to the recently passed racehorse Haru Urara. Fans have left offerings, represented with the picture of his Umamusume counterpart (the horsegirls in Umamusume are based on real Japanese racehorses) ranging from candies to RM150 vouchers in memory of the “shining star of losers everywhere.”

If your con experience is shopping for figurines and collectibles, Cos-Mic 2025 don’t have that much to offer compared to other events. No gunpla vendor in sight, unfortunately. But there is the rare sighting of a Lego booth. Since Lego is now offering sets based on the One Piece live adaptation on Netflix, they now can be at ACG conventions. The little booth had good spread of sets, from the cheaper F1 blindboxes to the various Lego gaming sets including sets based on Fortnite, Minecraft, Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Mario. And they were offering buyers something a rare: a GWP (gift with purchase) set of the Gum-Gum fruit that’s exclusively available at this event only, at least in Malaysia.

And if you’re in the market for washing machines, apparently you can see a few of those there as well? Not sure why home appliances are here in an ACG event. At least the Spritzer booth, a company selling bottled water, has Pokémon theming all around it.

Cos-Mic 2025 offers the usual schedule of concerts, meet-and-greets and cosplayer sightings as any ACG event in Malaysia would. But despite the smaller size and less exhibitions available, it does offer more stuff for the gamers and gaming fans, something the bigger ACG events here sometimes lacks. It’s a cool event, and definitely worth supporting in the years to come.
