The Acer Predator Helios 700 Has “Hyper Drift” keyboard, Core i9 and an RTX 2080, Priced at RM17,999 in Malaysia
Acer Malaysia has launched a new Predator gaming laptop. But it’s only for serious buyers.
The Predator Helios 700 costs a whopping RM17,999, the most expensive of the 2019 offering by far. But it comes with oh-so-many bells and whistles. 9th-gen Intel Core i9. An Nvdia GeForce RTX 2080. 32GB RAM. 1TB SSD in Raid config. 4th-gen Aeroblade 3d fans with a vapour chamber.
And also, “hyper drift” keyboard. It’s a fancy way to say the keyboard slides down revealing the top surface dedicated for cooling and ventilation. But it also slides off the touchpad which is really rad. The keyboard uses MagForce switches with easy to replace keycaps.
Here’s the full specs for the PS717-71-92H0:
- CPU: 9th-gen Intel Core i9-9980HK+
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, 8GB GDDR6
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- Storrage: 1TB PVIe NVMe SSD RAID 0 (512GBx2)
- Display: 17.3″ 144Hz 1080p IPS, G-Sync
- Price: RM17,999
Again, this is for serious buyers only. The specs are obviously on the premium end, and it’s theoretically the best specs you can put on a laptop right now. The cool thing is, there is a 2-year warranty included that covers accidental damage and theft.
Acer Predator Helios 700 Hands-On Impressions
We got some hands-on time with the Helios 700. True to its name, its design is reminiscent of the recent Helios 500, albeit much, much bigger. Sliding down the keyboard not overclocks the laptop further, but also triggers a sound effect. Not the tune of eurobeat intensifying, but a swish, sci-fi spooling effect as it literally powers up to another power level.
As far as performance goes, it runs ultra on Shadow of War with over 200fps according to several benchmark runs. Rainbow Six Siege on Ultra can also handle the destruction physics really well, averaging over 300fps on the benchmark. There’s also Dota 2 running on one other model, but it’s safe to assume the Helios 700 can handle esports titles with ease.
We didn’t notice any considerable heat, with the laptop running at full load and still operating around 44 degrees Celcius based on the PredatorSense app, which is bonkers- that’s what the idle temperature for most laptops.
The Acer Predator Helios 700 is out now in Malaysia. As evident by the price tag, this is not for everyone. But if you like the design styling, there’s always the new, more affordable but still powerful Helios 300, which we reviewed before here.
