Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Releasing This September

Are you ready for a Test Drive? Because Test Drive Unlimited is back. Nacon and KT Racing’s revival of the Test Drive series, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, now has a release date.

Revealed during Big Ben Week 2024, a new trailer for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown was released, giving a new look of the open world, a 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong Island, just like the previous two Test Drive Unlimited games were. The trailer follows the narration of two spokespersons for the two clans: The Streets and The Sharps, going back and forth waxing poetry about racing, competing, about earning respect and enjoying the driving lifestyle.

Plenty of seemingly gameplay footage- unless those nameplates UI on top of the cars are all faked via CGI- shows the breadth of the game’s car roster, from rally classics like the Lancia Stratos and the Alpine A110 to modern supercars.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is the first title in the series under Nacon and KT Racing. The Test Drive series has had a long run since the 1990s with the mainline game having usually point-to-point races, as well as an off-road spinoff series in the form of Test Drive Off-Road.

Test Drive Unlimited was the first open-world game from the series developed by Eden Games. Between that game and Test Drive Unlimited 2, the series has influenced many of the modern open world racing games we have today. So these are big boots to fill, but previously trailers showed the devs understood the assignment, at least on paper.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown releases on September 12, 2024 for the PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
