Street Fighter V’s Arcade Mode Will Get You Really Busy

Street Fighter V’s upcoming Arcade Mode, coming in the release of Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, has been further detailed. And it looks like it will offer a lot of things to do for those not into playing online matches.

The structure is an homage to past, with six different stages all themed to the six main Street Fighter games, from I to V and Alpha. To fit with the theming, only characters that appeared in those games (or tangentially related to those games) are playable and appear in those stages. Street Fighter III has Laura- a new Street Fighter V character that is the sister to Sean that debuted in III- in the slot, for example.

Characters will wear game-specific costumes as well. Birdie is out of shape in his current rendition but his Street Fighter Alpha costume, with the odd hole in his hair and ripped abs, is back

There are branching paths after each stage which allows you to pick a stronger or weaker opponent to progress. There is a bonus stage that tasked you to hit 20 barrels for bonus points. There’s an online leaderboard that resets each month with the best score awarded a special title for use online.

Plus, there is over 200 endings to watch and see, some only unlockable by fulfilling certain criteria like only scoring perfects each round.

This is one sizeable load of content for those that have stucked around with Street Fighter V over the years, but is it enough to reel in back casual players? That remains to be seen.

Street Fighter V Arcade Edition will launch on January 16, 2018. All current owners of Street Fighter V will be getting all these new content and gameplay changes for free, while the new retail copies will have all Season 1 and Season 2 DLC characters unlocked from the get go.
