Here’s a big reveal at The Game Awards 2025. A new Star Wars game is announced and it’s called Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic.
That name is enough to send gamers of the 2000s into hyped excitement, but to those not in the know, this is a spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic. Usually shorthanded into KOTOR, the 2003 is the game that brought developer BioWare into becoming the RPG juggernaut that it was in the late 2000s where they followed this space opera with their own series, Mass Effect.
While Fate Of The Old Republic isn’t developed by BioWare, there is a familiar name attached to the game. Casey Hudson, director of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic and the Mass Effect series, is the game director for Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic.
The developer, Arcanaut Studios, has only just established back in July 2025, as per the company website. The development team based in Edmonton, Canada.
Hudson previously headed Humanoid Origin, a new studio backed by NetEase Games in 2021, though the studio shut down in 2024. Previously, Hudson served as General Manager for BioWare between 2017 to 2020.
This all means that Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic (FOTOR) is still early in development. What’s confirmed so far is that it will be a “narrative-driven action RPG” where you are a Force user, and it will also be “unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward light or darkness.” The trailer is labelled as a teaser trailer, so don’t expect that wet, sweaty face close-up represents gameplay.

FOTOR isn’t the only game showcased during The Game Awards 2025 that attempted to catch that BioWare magic. Exodus also makes another appearance with a new trailer.
There is also another Star Wars game announced, one without Jedis and Sith. It’s a racing game called Star Wars Galactic Racer, developed by ex-Criterion devs.
