Final Fantasy VII Remake will see a brand-new, more action-oriented combat system from the original JRPG. And it seems like each character will have a different style of normal and special attacks. For the main man Cloud, his special lets him switch stances.
Square Enix has dropped a few more details on how another character plays in the remake: the sweetheart Aerith. A magic user, her main attacks with square sends magic projectiles. Mashing or holding square lets her send successive projectiles that cover a wide range. And also produces a lot of flower petals in its wake.
Aerith also has at least two abilities. Soul Drain absorbs MP- a resource she will greatly spend on since she attacks with magic. There’s also Lustrous Shield, where she drops a magical shield (that shapes like a flower, of course). The shield blocks projectiles, and enemies touching it will take damage.
Square Enix has shown four playable characters so far: Cloud, Aerith, Tifa and Barrett. Expect the latter two will also get unique playstyles as Cloud and Aerith has been detailed.
Final Fantasy VII Remake, which covers the Midgar portion of the original game, will be out in March 3rd, 2020 on PS4.
