There must be serious weight losing programmes back at ASUS ROG headquarters. The ROG Zephyrus is one of the world’s thinnest gaming laptop. First released last year, it received a refresh with the Zephyrus M.
Now it has another refresh, the Zephyrus S (GX531).
The Zephyrus S is well-equipped with the right specs for high-end gaming. Here’s the specs for the GX531GM:
- CPU: Intel i7-8750H
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB VRAM)
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 512GB M.2 SSD
- Display: 15.6″ 1080p IPS panel, 144Hz refresh rate
There is only one variant for now, no word on the one with GTX 1070 (Max-Q) GPU will be coming here or not.
All of these excellent spreadsheet of specs is fitted into a 14.95-15.75mm thin body. The thickness is variable as it will expand its thickness when opened up for cooling purposes, the “Active Aerodynamic System”, just like previous Zephyrus models.
Like most thin gaming laptops, its keyboard is brought to the most front of the surface area.
From what we saw at the launch event by ASUS, it’s a pretty mean package. Performance-wise, we saw Hitman 2 running at Ultra settings with acceptable framerate (floating around 50-60FPS in the first level). Interestingly, it can also be powered by a power bank, just to sell the idea that this is a thin, portable device you can bring around.
It also has ASUS’ proprietary Aura Sync for the RGB lighting. It will also have the new Armoury Crate app, a one-stop destination to adjust any of the settings unique to the laptop like RGB lighting and fan speed.
The ROG Zephyrus S is now available in Malaysia for RM7,999. First 30 buyers will get a free BP1500G ROG bagpack (worth RM 159).
In other news, ASUS Malaysia also launched the new 17.3″ ROG Strix SCAR II (GL704) gaming laptop, and a whole apparel line of clothing called the ROG Collection which features two T-shirts and three new backpacks, including the BP1500G.
