Skate Story Kickflips To Release This December

2025 is turning to be low-key the year of skateboarding games, as Skate Story has now locked in a release date.

The indie skateboarding game by Sam Eng and Devolver Digital has been delayed for some time, but it’s now set to kickflip its way into releasing this December.

The new release date trailer features a new single by the indie band Blood Cultures, Emptylands. The band is a collective of anonymous members, hence their imagery all featured the members donning creepy masks. Emptylands offer a more ominous, some may say demonic, electronica beat compared to the previous song featured on Skate Story’s trailer.

Blood Cultures will providing music to Skate Story, dedicating a whole album’s worth. The album, Skate Story Vol. 1, features 12 tracks including Emptylands and will be available on music streaming platforms and on vinyl.

The trailer also gives another glimpse of Skate Story, where you play as a demon made out of glass and pain. The Devil has given you a skateboard to do one thing: skate and reach the moons, and devour them. Only then you can be free.

Unlike say Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater or the Skate series, Skate Story is less about capturing skateboarding culture, but how to tell some wild, avant-garde, story that happens to feature skateboarding. That’s not to say the skateboarding aspect is an afterthought, the physics of it looks more grounded than the new Tony Hawk and Skate games.

In a year where we somehow got a new Tony Hawk game and a new Skate game released, here comes Skate Story barging in making a case for best skateboarding game of the year.

Skate Story also has a demo now live on PC.

Skate Story will be out on December 8 for the PS5, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch 2.
