Shovel Knight Showdown Is A Platform Fighter, The Last DLC For Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight has made many cameos recently. An assist trophy for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, playable in Rivals Of Aether and Blade Stranger fighting games. And the list goes on.

So it’s fitting that the last DLC for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove turns the cast into a platform fighter.

Shovel Knight Showdown lets you battle two to four characters from a roster of 16. It’s not really a Smash-like despite the platform fighter moniker- the mechanics here stick closer to the main game’s platforming and combat style.

But it’s not just a fun gimmick either. It’s a full game on itself. There’s a Story mode filled with rivalry matches and the occasional minigames, multiple victory conditions (Gem Clash mode has you collect 5 gems to win, Showdown is the standard last-man-standing) and even a practice mode. No online multiplayer, but that’s understandable.

It’s fully-fledged enough that it will be a standalone release for $9.99 USD (around RM41). Owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (except on PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS) however will get this for absolutely free.

All of the cameos in fighting games Shovel Knight has made resulted in him having his own platform fighter, which is interesting to see. There is no release date yet, though it may probably arrive after the next, and last, free single-player campaign, Kings Of Cards.

Shovel Knight Showdown will be available on the PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U and the Amazon FireTV.
