Select 2022 Samsung TVs And Gaming Monitors To Support HDR10+ Gaming

Samsung announced that select 2022 TVs and monitors of 4K and 8K resolution will be supporting HDR10+ Gaming.

“We are extremely proud to announce that the new HDR10+ Gaming standard will be adopted by Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED line up with the Q70 TV series and above and gaming monitors, allowing users to enjoy a game-changing experience through cutting-edge visuals and richer, life-like images,” said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

HDR10+ is one of a few HDR formats available in the market (another example would be Dolby Vision). High Dynamic Range allows displays to show more vibrant colours and darker blacks. HDR10+ is a more advanced format that makes displays adjust the brightness levels on a per-scene or per-frame basis. So the colours continue to consistently pop.

HDR10+ Gaming is another layer on the format, with extra features to cater for the displaying video games.

This includes support for variable refresh rate (VRR) plus refresh rates up to 120Hz, low latency and the coolest and directly useful feature for players: automated HDR calibration. No need to manually adjust the settings in the options menu, games with HDR10+ Gaming will have that sorted automatically.

Speaking of, since this is a specific format of HDR, games and graphics cards need to support HDR10+ Gaming standards for it to work. For now, Saber Interactive is one of the developers that has pledged support, with upcoming games like Pinball FX (the follow-up to Pinball FX3) and Wipeout-like racing game Redout 2 to include HDR10+ Gaming.

It will need support from graphics card providers as well. Nvidia will be added HDR10+ Gaming support to Nvidia GeForce RTX 30, RTX 20, and GTX 16 series via a driver update later this year.

If you’re looking to get a new gaming monitor or TV for gaming use this year, and would prefer to get one from Samsung, be on the lookout for the HDR10+ Gaming logo. That’s the one with the most feature-rich HDR support of the lot.
